Natural disasters

A natural disaster is the effect of a natural hazard (e.g. flood, tornado, hurricane, volcanic eruption, earthquake, tsunami or landslide) that affects the environment. In the world rating for the most affected place by earthquakes, Syria stands the first with 1,100,000 affected people in the year 1202 and Calcutta in India stands the third with 300,000 people affected in 1737. But in the recent times, 150,000 and more people were affected in Haiti in the year 2010. And while looking at the tsunami prone countries, India is also one of them while Albania is standing first. But India is not one of the hurricane prone countries. Japan is also a country which is affected both by tsunami and earthquakes and it is in 7th place in both. Japan may have up to 5000 earthquakes each year including tsunamis. Another common disaster in Japan may be volcanic eruption. Typhoon season comes at the end of September and the beginning of October in Japan. Typhoon is known as one of the tropical cyclones that has a wind speed of more than 17.2 meters per second. There are about 29 typhoons in a year. They are one of the worst weather systems that bring a big amount of damage and loss to their human life. But in India, droughts are the main natural disaster that people are prone to. Agriculture, which is the main occupation of most of the people, is heavily dependent on the monsoon as a source of water. In some parts of India, the failure of the monsoons result in water shortages, resulting in below-average crop yields.

Science and technology: India and Japan

Science and technology has been a part of our life for us. Day to day, we can see the technology getting improved more and more. Men are becoming more dependent on it most of the time. The most scientifically advanced countries are many like US, Japan, Germany and so on…India is also one of them. India probably is in the 9th place in scientific advancement while Japan is probably in the 1st or 2nd place. Well, there is an increase in inventions till now everywhere. Some interesting inventions by Japanese like The Internet Umbrella, conceived by a team at Keio University, which acts as a photo browser by displaying images from the Internet as the user walks along are really amazing. And the PC controlled by user’s eye ; Professor Arai Kohei of Saga University's Faculty of Science and Engineering has developed a system whereby PC users can input text simply by looking at an on-screen keyboard. there are more and more interesting inventions in Japan like talking paper, the mind-reading robot , the running robot , painless injections , an so on…

Population: India and Vatican city

In case of population, the most populated country in the world with 1,337,920,000 people which is 19.6% of the world population. And India is the second most populated with 1,181,770,000 people which is 17.31% of the world population. But as both the countries are in the top position, we can compare India with the least populated country which is in the 222nd position, the Vatican City with just 800 people. Almost all of Vatican City's citizens either live inside the Vatican's walls or serve in the Holy See's diplomatic service embassies (called "nunciatures"; a papal ambassador is a "nuncio") around the world. The Vatican citizenry consists almost entirely of two groups: clergy, most of whom work in the service of the Holy See, and a very few as officials of the state; and the Swiss Guard. Vatican City has no set language. they speak German, French, Romansh or Italian. Whereas coming to India, by 2030, the population of India will be largest in the world estimated to be around 1.53 billion. There has been rapid increase in Indian population in the last 60 years. Population of India at the time of Independence was only 350 million. So Indian Population has increased more than three times. Although India has created several impressive goals to reduce its population growth rates, the India and the rest of the world has a long way to go to achieve meaningful population controls in this country with a growth rate of 1.6%, representing a doubling time under 44 years.

Culture and etiquette

The culture of a country includes human behavior, etiquette, attitudes of the people, their practices, their way of dressing, etc…culture of a country cannot be compared with that of another country Because, each country has its unique cultures and etiquettes. But many people accept that Indian culture is one of the best cultures in the world. And some people also say that Italian culture is amazing too. When we compare the Indian culture and the Italian culture of living, we may find many differences. In India, the language, religion, customs and traditions differs from place to place.Namaste, Namaskar or Namaskaram or Vannakam is a common spoken greeting or salutation in the Indian subcontinent . it means "I bow to you" expressing deep respect. In Italy, ciào (pronounced as chow) is an informal way to say hi or bye. Appearances matter a lot in Italy. The way you dress can indicate your social status, your family's background, and your education level. The concept of 'bella figura' or good image is important to Italians. You will be judged on your clothes, shoes, accessories and the way you carry yourself.

Corruption: India and Somalia

These days Indians are very well aware of the malpractices in the highest of levels of all places. So much so that now, the average Indian has reached the highest level of disgust and disappointment at the way things are moving in this country. Let us first of all understand what is meant by corruption and corrupt practices. In brief, anything that is below all standard norms of morality in a country, is called or defined as corruption and corrupt practices. Transparency International’s 2008 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) scores show Somalia and Iraq are the most corrupt countries in the world, with Denmark being the least corrupt. Well, India is in the 84th place, but no Indians can believe that it is not one of the most corrupt country. While there are 180 total corrupt countries, India is not among the top ten. But still, being an Indian, everyday, i keep watching corruption going on in our country. So to think about Somalia which is the most corrupt country, I wanted to check out the facts about corruption in Somalia. And I found that, Half the food aid sent to Somalia does not reach the hands of the people who are in need. It goes into the hands of corrupt distributors. Mogadishu - Shifting alliances and the destruction of graves belonging to Islamic saints and scholars presents a picture of the bloody factionalism that continues to plague Somalia, while the UN-backed government is weakened by its own corruption.

Education

Indian educational system is categorized into kindergarten, primary education, senior secondary education and then higher education like degrees through universities. The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), Indian Institutes of Science, National Law Schools, Jawaharlal Nehru University are some famous institutes. The world’s best education system is the education system in Finland. The interesting facts about Finnish education are that, Finnish students start schooling at the age of 7 and end at 15 or 16. There’s only a 4% difference in achievement between the students at the country’s best and worst schools. Though it’s above-average, the Finns spend less on education than many other nations, including the US and South Korea. No tuition fees are collected for full-time students and free meals are served to pupils at primary and secondary levels, where the pupils go to their local school. Education after primary school is divided into vocational and academic systems Whereas Indian students start their education right from the age of 2 or 3 and end at the age of 17 almost. Yet India is developing in the field of education in order to decrease the rate of illiteracy.

Cinema

People in India are very crazy about cinema and it is the fate of Indians to watch out weird movies. Viewers fail to see the quality of the film and they are constrained to expect similar kind of films with same mindset. Indian film-makers have a high range of imagination that makes movies that is completely irrelevant to real life. Firstly, let me give a concise description about most of the movies taken in the southern part of India.

Almost all the movie consists of one hero and one heroine. Both, scuffle at the beginning and shortly unexpectedly they’ll fell in love at an instance. Heroine’s dad or brother will be the villain of the movie. Hero will fight with villain and win the girl.

These four lines describe the main theme in all the Indian movies. The only thing is that Indian film makers have a great talent of developing this little theme into a lengthy film for two and a half hours by adding some extra fittings and superfluities. Once one of my friend whose native is Mongolia but stays in Chennai, asked me about one of the tamil movie she watched. “In India, do we have to compulsorily sing song if we are in love?” After a love scene, all of a sudden, hero and heroin will go to a location that is full of snow or they’ll be moved to a garden to sing a duet song. And I really feel pathetic about the group dancers dancing behind the hero and heroine. The unnoticed group dancers will be given a horrible costume with horrendous dress. I don’t know when they are going to put a full stop to all this nonsense.

And when I come to fighting scene, no! Neither of the hero are Bruce Lee or Jetli, but all the heroes will have the amazing capability of flying from one building to another, which cannot be done even by Spiderman. The Hero will carry a small gun while the all the men around him will have so many large pistols but none of the bullet from them will hit hero rather all the men will fell down. And even if the bullet hits the hero, he won’t die. And for a change if the director wants to show the hero’s death, after the hitting of bullet, hero will tell the whole flash back where the scene extends for another half an hour, then once the flash back gets over, the hero will get an unbearable pain and die.

Yummy.....

India is renowned for spice. Most of the Indian preparation of food starts with spicy ingredients like onion, ginger, garlic, or spices such as cumin seeds, in boiling groundnut oil. Spices such as chilly, black pepper, cardamom and cloves are also used in Indian dishes. At the end of the preparation, curry leaves and some of the flavorings like lime juice are also added.

North Indians prefer to have more of dishes made of wheat flour and malted barley such as shahi paratha, naan, mughlai paratha, chapathi with dhal or sabji. They also take kashmiri kabab, mutter pulao, tandoori chicken, etc...South Indian prefer rice mixed with sambhar, avail, ericheri, mor kuzhambu, vetha kuzhambu, etc… whereas fish dishes are very popular in the states like Kerala and West Bengal and hyderabadi chicken biriyani, guthi vaangi is popular in Andhra. Dishes made of egg mixed with gravy are also very popular in India.

I would also wish to share one of my experiences I had in a health restaurant called Sanjeevanam situated in adayar, Chennai. I went with my family for a lunch. This is actually a naturopathy centre that also included a health restaurant. I have never been to a restaurant like this before. First we were served with five cups of juices and we were also asked to drink in order from left to right. I don’t remember the order but it included dates juice, beetroot juice, butter milk juice, kanji, and pudhina(mint) juice. That was really delicious, and then we were served with raw uncooked vegetables like carrot, cucumber mixed with salt and pepper, green mango. Then we were served with semi-cooked dishes such as pumpkin, turnips, cabbage, and sprouts. Then lastly, we were served with fully cooked dishes like spinach, channa dal, bitter guard, and red rice that is unpolished which is usually preferred by people in kerala with dhal. At last, we were served with white rice, rasam, and mor kuzhambu. Once when we were done with all these dishes, then finally payasam and a spoon of honey was also served. Mmmm… That was really yummy and good. Hey hey.. wait … still there’s one more thing left out… “Beedaaa” ya beeda… this gives the finishing touch for this Indian traditional food. This is a mixture of areca nut, betel nut, jeera, wrapped in beetal leaves in triangular shape usually taken after meals. This is chewable and is served to improve digestion and it also cleans the mouth and acts as disinfectant. So I hope the whole stuff in the meals were really healthy with less oil content that prevents us from high cholesterol. Even after having so many dishes, my stomach was not too heavy, I felt light and sufficient. And one more thing I forgot to say, we were not served water till the end of the meal.

I have heard that even Filipino dishes are served in banana leaf. People in Philippines also prefer a lot of vegetables and rice; they eat lots of seafood and meat. Filipinos also believe that the longer noodles are greater and so they don’t cut or break the noodles when served.

United states of America prefer foods like hamburgers, pizza, sandwiches, hot dogs, mushrooms, American chopsuey, which is prepared using crispy noodles, vegetables and tangy sauce, and they take a lot of junk foods like coke, biscuits, chocolates that of more calories.

Inter-city buses and trains

Busses in India would be a best model for students to learn about center of gravity. Students can easily learn how to determine the location of center of gravity just by knowing how to balance and stand in the bus in India. Actually, this bus helps us also to learn how to balance in one leg that assists us to develop our focus and concentration. I feel this is a good balancing exercise that you can never experience anywhere else. I really don’t have the feeling of where I am. I stand in the middle of the crowd and wonder where my leg is. Every one’s eyes are in search of a small breathing space to stand. And when the bus stops, people in the bus rush to get down in their stop and the people out of the bus blocks the way and pushes everyone again into the bus. Each and everyone have to struggle, push, roll and jump out of the bus to get down in their stop. This bus gives chance to each and every passenger to show their unique talent to take an adventurous trip. So anyone who wishes to take up a daring and audacious trip can visit India. All the best…Happy journey…

Buses in most of the other countries run in a scheduled timetable. Intercity buses are widespread in America. Although everybody in America own a car, buses are very helpful to travel to smaller towns within the city. It is safe to travel through bus but it is considered to be a “lower class” way to travel as it is normally affordable and dependable way of transportation. Discounts are also available for the passengers who book their ticket in advance for seven to fourteen days for travel.
